NOTE

With sets, I seek to make space for the story and keep us aware that we are in a special place, created and (or) shaped for this event. I like audience to be aware of each other. I like naturalism when the project is best supported that way. I seek a theatrical space, and love when we create a fluid vocabulary that can serve multiple purposes. I like to move stories forward, keep the focus on action and text, and keep the audience connected to each other and the performers.

I’ve worked for a long time as a resident designer, with a varied portfolio because of that. If you want to look at a specific kind of design, use the collections page or top navigation bar to navigate directly to a collection of, for example, multi-set designs. Looking at those groupings should also give you an idea of how I think of these kinds of sets, and there is a bit more writing about design with each collection.
